PMHSS is in Tuticorin District, Southern Tamil Nadu. Puthiamputhur is a small town in the Ottapidaram taluk of Tuticorin district, Tamil Nadu, India, situated near Ettayapuram and Kovilpatti. It has good road connectivity to major towns. The town is known for its textile industry. It has ancient places of worship covering all major religions.
The journey of PMHSS began in 1989 as Prasanna nursery and primary school. The institution was founded to provide quality education to the children of Puthiamputhur, a rural hamlet where agriculture and garment production were the primary occupations. The local community had little interest in formal education, especially in the English medium education. Despite scepticism and resistance, particularly from those who doubted the viability of a school in the village, the vision of creating an educational institution was realised. The driving force behind this was Mr S.S. Alagusundaram, a generous and visionary donor who was deeply concerned about the welfare of the village children. His steadfast belief in the power of education and immense generosity were instrumental in establishing the school. He donated his land to the cause. His foresight and support, along with the passion of his daughter Mrs. Rajeswari Navaneethan and Mr. M.S.M. Navaneethan, the school's founder and correspondent, laid the foundation for a thriving institution.
In 1996, the institution expanded by introducing the matriculation curriculum, responding to the growing need for upgrading education. Many children from economically disadvantaged families had been unable to pursue education beyond the primary level due to the lack of a local matriculation school. While some affluent families could send their children to schools in Thoothukudi, travel, safety concerns, and financial constraints prevented many others from pursuing education in the city. In response to this challenge, this institution took the crucial step of establishing a matriculation school to fulfil this unmet need. Under the leadership of Mrs. Rajeswari Navaneethan and with the continued support of Mr. M.S.M. Navaneethan, the institution became a beacon of hope for the village and surrounding areas. The school earned the trust and admiration of the community, offering an affordable and quality education irrespective of caste, race or religion.
In 2018, this institution took another significant step by adding a higher secondary division, making it one of the few institutions in the region to provide comprehensive education from nursery to higher secondary levels. This expansion further solidified the institution's commitment to empowering students with the education they needed to succeed. This institution’s impact has been profound, with many of its alums securing government jobs or gaining admission to prestigious universities and colleges. The success of the institution is attributed to its dedicated staff, including highly qualified and passionate teachers and the strong support of the school’s community of parents.
As this institution enters its 36th year, it continues to offer a high standard of education. The institution's motto, "Lighted to Lighten," symbolises its commitment to enlightening children's minds with a blend of traditional values and modern education. The legacy of prasanna, built on the vision of Mr. M.S.M. Navaneethan and Mrs. Rajeswari Navaneethan, remains as strong as ever. The school is now stepping towards the future to provide international-level education. Through its unwavering commitment to education, this institution has not only transformed countless children's lives but has also become a source of pride for the entire community.
